Frequently Asked Questions
Anodyne provides three core in-home services, each designed for a different stage of care:
- Home Health: Skilled nursing, physical, occupational, and speech therapy for patients recovering from illness, surgery, or managing a chronic condition. Care is ordered by your doctor and is covered by Medicare.
- Palliative Care: Symptom management, pain control, and emotional support for patients with a serious illness at any stage, regardless of whether curative treatment is still ongoing. No specific prognosis is required.
- Hospice Care: Comprehensive comfort-focused care for patients nearing the end of life, including nursing, aide services, chaplain support, music therapy, comfort pet visits, and bereavement support for the whole family. Medicare covers hospice 100% for eligible patients.
All three services are delivered in your home across the Greater Chicago area.
Eligibility varies by service:
- Home Health: Patients who are homebound (leaving home requires considerable effort) and have a skilled care need ordered by a physician, which can include skilled nursing, and various therapy visits. We cover them all.
- Palliative Care: Any patient managing a serious illness, at any stage. There is no prognosis requirement, and you may continue pursuing curative treatment at the same time.
- Hospice: Patients with a terminal diagnosis and a prognosis of six months or less, if the illness follows its expected course, who have chosen to focus on comfort rather than curative treatment. If your condition improves or you choose to resume curative care, you can leave hospice at any time.
We serve patients regardless of race, income, religion, national origin, or payment source. If you’re unsure which service fits your situation, call us — we’ll help you figure it out.
Yes, Anodyne is Medicare-certified, and Medicare is a primary payer for all three of our services:
- Home Health: Medicare covers 100% of skilled nursing and therapy visits when eligibility criteria are met. There is typically no copay for Medicare-covered home health.
- Palliative Care: Medicare pays 100% for palliative home care services, including
nursing and therapy support, focusing on improving the patient’s quality of life and
managing symptoms, without the need for a specific prognosis - Hospice: Medicare pays 100% for all related services including nursing, medications, medical supplies, equipment, and inpatient care. There is no cost-sharing for patients or families.
Most private insurance plans also cover some or all of these services. Contact us and we’ll help verify your benefits before care begins.
In most cases, yes, and we actively encourage it.
- With palliative care, your current physicians remain fully in charge of your treatment. Our team works alongside them to manage symptoms and coordinate care, not to replace them.
- With hospice care, your primary physician can remain involved in your care and
continue to oversee your plan. Anodyne’s hospice physicians and nurses coordinate
closely with your doctor to ensure continuity.
We believe in a team approach. Our goal is to make your care more coordinated and manageable, not to create more disruption for you.
